4 Great Ways to Limit Traffic on Your Blog
How often do you share blog posts? I’ve been working the social media channels hard the past few weeks and am becoming increasingly frustrated. As many of you know, I’m working on the AMMA miningoilandgasjobs.com project full-time. The focus of my online reading has been around the resources industry, career advice and recruitment. I find terrific content but often end up not sharing it with my large network. Here’s why.
The Arrogance of Bloggers
Have you spotted arrogant bloggers? It’s taken me a long while to admit to being a blogger. If you read my first post, you’ll see how uncomfortable I was with the idea of keeping a blog. I worried about saying anything relevant. What I didn’t share was my worry about establishing a vanity vehicle for my own opinion. It struck me as an arrogant thing to do. I see a lot of arrogance amongst bloggers and it drives me nuts.

12 Ways You Can Help a Blogger Out
You probably already know I’m a big fan of blogging. Next to public speaking, my blog is the most effective marketing activity I undertake. I remind myself of this when faced with a blank page or a busy week and I still haven’t posted anything. A recent report published by Hubspot reinforced my high opinion of the blog. Their research reported in the Marketing Data Box reveals marketers believe the blog is great value with more than half the companies surveyed reporting the blog is “below average cost” for generating leads. Blogging trumps social media, SEO and PPC (pay per click) in the cost game.
9 Tips for Spotting a SPAM Comment on Your Blog
Have you noticed an increase in SPAM comments on your blog? In the past few months, I’ve been hit hard. I’ve also noticed the people doing it have a few new tricks. Historically, I used to get comments full of links and text with no relation to my post topic or even to my blog - obvious SPAM. It’s becoming a lot harder to spot the dodgy comments but they do have common features.
7 Ways Being "On Assignment" Enhances Your Content Marketing
When was the last time you had an assignment? One of the great benefits of content marketing is getting published without having to go through a query process. While freelancers live and die by the query letter, many full-time writers are assigned projects by an editor. While I love the autonomy of publishing my own content – most of it through my blog - being “on assignment” can be really valuable.
What To Do When You’ve Lost Your Blogging Mojo
Do you ever struggle to come up with ideas for a blog post? If you’re like me, you probably suffer from ebbs and flows in inspiration and motivation. Even when I have a good idea, I don’t always have enough writing mojo left at the end of the day to translate it into great copy. On other days I can put 500 or more words on the page before I realise I haven’t really said anything, or anything that hasn’t already been said about a million times. It’s not writer’s block; it’s more like blogging fatigue.
How “Old School” Habits Can Beat Writer’s Block
Do you ever struggle to find a topic for a blog post? I battled to find inspiration today. It’s Thanksgiving in the USA, the country from which I originally hail, so maybe I’m having some sort of long buried resistance to working on a holiday. As I watched the clock tick away valuable writing hours, I knew exactly how to solve my problem. I’ll let you in on a sure-fire way to find inspiration.
School Holiday Squeeze
The Spring school holidays are in full swing here in Australia. It’s the biggest threat to my blogging schedule. I missed my 2nd post last week. The article I’m planning is going to take several hours to write that I just don’t have. I’m admitting defeat. While I’m a strong believer in original content, the goal of this blog is to provide practical advice on a regular basis.
