FAQ
Have your written anything for the mining (engineering, medical, education, etc.) industry?
Research is involved in every single project a commercial writer undertakes. I come from a technical background and am comfortable with intelligent people discussing complex ideas, products and services. I have the ability to extract the essence of their experience and construct fresh, clean copy that will appeal to an audience less versed in the intricacies of a particular field. I write business documents, not technical manifestos
What does B2B mean?
B2B is an acronym meaning “Business to Business”: It’s a popular buzzword representing products and services that are sold to other companies. A mainframe software company, graphic designers, and engineering firms are all example of B2B businesses. Nearly all the work I produce is for B2B customers.
What does CSR mean?
CSR is an acronym for the latest business obsession, Corporate Social Responsibility. If you don’t have a CSR plan you’d better get one fast. Truthfully, it probably won’t win you any business but not having one is going to close the door to more and more opportunities.
What is GFC?
Global Financial Crisis - enough said.
What is SEO?
Another popular three-letter-acronym, SEO stands for Search Engine Optimization. You can do a Google search on SEO to find out more. If you would prefer a simple explanation (and who doesn’t?) it’s the positive manipulation of a website to ensure that it appears at the top of the results for popular search engines like Google, Bing and Yahoo. It is important because most people won’t page down more than a couple times before they make a decision about which company they’re going to investigate. Common SEO techniques include selecting meaningful key words or phrases, adding links to other sites and producing a regular blog.
What is the difference between SMB and SME?
Nothing. SME is the American way to describe Small and Medium Enterprise. The Australians call it SMB, Small and Medium Business.
How much do you charge?
Each project is different and priced accordingly. I prefer to work on a fixed-price basis so clients know before work starts how much they need to budget for my services. It is impossible for me to quote for work until I understand the scope of the project. I can only do that after I’ve had a consultative discussion about your business.
Why do I have to pay a deposit?
Securing a deposit is standard industry practice. It ensures that freelancers in the creative industries have a steady flow of grocery money while we're working on your project.
How many revisions do I get to make?
My goal is to write quality copy that you and your company love and use to advance your business objectives. I am quite happy to revise any document two times without charge. After the second revision, I reserve the right to revisit our financial agreement.
How long will it take?
It depends on the project. A freelance writer will finish a project in about half the time it would take a client to do the same thing. Writing is my business meaning I am quick and efficient. If you let me do your writing that gives you and your staff more time to focus on what you do best.
What happens if we decide to terminate the project?
Occasionally, projects are cancelled and directions change. If that happens after I've started a project, I expect the client to pay only for work that was completed.
Where do you work?
I'm in Fremantle, Western Australia which is just southwest of Perth. Where I am is not a problem as long as we both work in English. I have customers all over the world and nearly 20 years of working internationally. I’ve never seen most of my clients and communicate with them by email and phone. It works surprisingly well. If you need to see me, we can have a virtual meeting using Skype or MSN Video Conference. If you happen to be in the Perth metropolitan area, I’ll jump at the chance to visit you in your office.
